Who said that Greta Garbo could ACT? She's so dramatic, i.e., Susan Hayward, Elizabeth Taylor and Bette Davis----these so-called actresses were just all hype. I became so bored with Garbo that I thought I'd scream. This is good acting. Very disappointing, but the storyline was good but typical 30's. She wouldn't make it in today's theater.

Garbo and Taylor are excellent actors, this script was well-written, and the DVD was remastered for good sound and video. The story of the rise and fall of a Parisian courtesan is similar to the background dynamics of Gigi (another good film). A story of forbidden love and obsession bordering on self-destruction. It highlights the social dynamics of a class-based society, and the lengths women must go to in order to survive.

If youre a Greta Garbo fan, Id have to say this is her finest movie. Her acting moves me to tears in many scenes of the movie. The movie moves quickly enough to a somewhat predicatble but nevertheless extremely well done end. Five Stars!
