The Adventures of Huck Finn (1993) Reviews

The Adventures of Huck Finn (1993)
Member Rating:
This eighth adaptation of the timeless Mark Twain novel casts Elijah Wood as Huckleberry Finn, the half-literate son of a drunk who runs away from home and follows the Mississippi River with an escaped slave named Jim (Courtney S. Vance). Along the way, the duo encounter adventures with colorful characters like The King (Jason Robards) and the Duke (Robbie Coltrane), two con men who impersonate British visitors in order to swindle two sisters out of their fortune, and Susan Wilks (Laura Bundy), the spunky 12-year-old girl who gives Huck his first kiss. Jim also re-educates Huck away from the racist views that he has grown up with. Not the most in-depth version of Twain's tale, The Adventures Of Huck Finn is a solid retelling of the classic story. ~ Don Kaye, Rovi

My teenage son found this helpful and much more lively the older version his English class was showing. He liked the Disney version.

This is an extremely high quality production with a host of top quality, famous actors! My 15 and 8 year olds really watched it several times, and enjoyed the story as much as I did. I strongly recommend it to families who want their children to enjoy an entertaining story with lots of action and a strong anti-slavery human rights message.

This version is clearly very Disney. Some of the deep themes of the great novel are definitely glossed over in true Disney fashion, but the overall effect is a good version of the Twain classic. The controversy of the novel is handled with class and dignity. All-in-all, the film is entertaining and helpful in understanding the plot of the great American literary work upon which it is based

Jazzed up with modern version but entertaining, nonetheless.

Simplified but beautifully photographed version of the Mark Twain classic. As faithful to the book as we have a right to expect with only two hours to work with. Good introduction to the pleasure in store from reading the book itself. Good family entertainment.

My 9 year old son said the beginning dragged on, and he was unable to finish it.
