A grieving father makes a pilgrimage to the Pyrenees in honor of his late son, and experiences a major epiphany during his journey down the Way of Saint James. When his adult son (Emilio Estevez) is killed during an excursion down a Christian pilgrimage route, California doctor Tom (Martin Sheen) vows to complete the treacherous journey. As Tom sets down the 800 km path with only his son's guidebook and backpack, he forges powerful bonds with three fellow travelers (Yorick Van Wageningen, Deborah Kara Unger, James Nesbitt, who alter his perspective of the world and remind him what it means to lead a meaningful life. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
I wish there was a more supportive market for this kind of film. Amongst the technology and violent trend to sell movies..,The Way is a gem but is not going to be seen by as many people as might gain something from viewing it. If you are into thought provoking movies rent this and discuss with with at least your cat.
Absolutely loved it! Superb, gentle story with believable and very interesting characters. Great writing and acting. And the beautiful cinematography made we want to hop on a plane and fly to France or Spain. I'm recommending it to everyone!
Really really nice family film. I wish Hollywood would make more films
like this. In my book this should have
been the top Oscar Winner in every
And the thing is I'm not even a fan
of Sheen or his son Estevez. And
please don't talk to me about Charlie.
But if you just want a feel good, learn
something, spend time wisely film,
this is it.
They tell me Sheen didn't even want
to do this film but his son Estevez
really pushed him so instead of Richard
Gere its Martin Sheen and he does a
stand up job. Five stars. After the film
you may want to pack your ruck sack
for a walk in Spain. Yes...Really!

Excellent, the photography of Spain and pilgrimage to the Pyrenees is breath taking to view. Well acted by whole cast and directed by Emilio Estevez - The cover caught my eye at BBV store and I am big fan of Martin Sheen for years.
Solid acting by a cast of pros cannot save the cliched script or poor directing that failed to deliver any emotional payoff (based on the preceding buildup). A disappointment but at least it is a good advertisement for the Camino de Santiago trail.
I rented this movie only because I've been to Santiago De Compostela and I wanted to see the town and cathedral again. I was afraid the film would be too religious or sappy, but I found it to be an original, honest, and entertaining story about different people making a pilgrimage for different reasons, none of them religious in the strict sense. A great little movie that stays with you.
