Writer/director Richard Ayoade adapts author Joe Dunthorne's acerbic coming-of-age novel to the big screen with this comedy centered on the efforts of precocious Welsh 15-year-old Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts) to lose his virginity before his next birthday, and to prevent his mother (Sally Hawkins) from having an affair with a smooth-talking spiritual guru (Paddy Considine) after his morose father (Noah Taylor) loses the will to fight for his marriage. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Well I often watch a few Independent movies, and I thought maybe I should watch this, although I was skeptical when I noticed it saying "Ben Stiller Presents" But in all I felt that this movie touched me in a way that me and him were the same facing the same troubles as we try to just solve things in life. I ended up crying for hours after the movie was over. But I guess we can see movies in different ways.

I really enjoyed this movie. I usually don't watch films like this, but I am glad I did. It was worth my time because the characters were quite quirky, funny, and interesting. The story line was original, for the most part, and not played out!

Set in a Welsh city, you'll need to put in a bit of effort to understand the accents, but it's worth the effort! Our "hero" is perfectly flawed and sympathetic. His perspective on life is myopic and tragic, as well as humerous. Original but believable supporting characters enrich an insightful, melancholy script.

It was a modern Harold and Maude, a black comedy I loved. If you like this, you will LOVE Dirty Girl. Rent that next.

I love small independent films especially foreign, but could not get into this one. Had to use subtitles to understand and it was lost in translation. Should give it another chance sometime when not so tired...and hot in mid March.

The appeal of the two leads was what made this movie worth watching in spite of some cliched moments. It is a movie for anyone who is willing to take a chance with something that doesn't involve guns, explosions, slashings and other headaches.
