In this cinemadaptation of William Inge's Broadway comedy Bus Stop, Marilyn Monroe is cast as Cherie, a fifth-rate nightclub chanteuse who captures the heart of Montana rodeo champ Bo (Don Murray). He, in turn, kidnaps Cherie and bundles her off to the roadside bus stop of the title. Gradually, the headstrong Bo learns that you can't rope a gal the same way you lasso a steer, but before this happens his face is rearranged by gallant bus driver Carl (Robert Bray). By this time, however, Cherie has fallen in love with her impulsive but basically good-hearted abductor. Others in the cast include Arthur O'Connell as Bo's level-headed travelling companion and "protector" Virgil, Betty Field as down-to-earth bus stop proprietress Grace, and Eileen Heckart as Cherie's confidante Vera. The film later inspired a 1961 TV series. A few TV prints of Bus Stop still exist bearing the alternate title Wrong Kind of Girl. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

I thought the first hour was delightful! During the second hour I was hoping it wouldn't end this way.....but it did, shucks. The story line is a bit dated, and will be annoying to today's women.

Monroe was convincing enough in her role, but the acting, overall, was terrible, the script stilted, and the story trite. It's hard to understand how a major studio would let a production this bad out of the can.

I wanted "Oklahoma!", but I got this instead. I was hoping there would be a lot more fun (for the audience) and romance. Don Murray is consistently good (however obnoxious the character could be at times). I'm not sure it was Academy Award-worthy, but his performance is definitely mismatched to Marilyn's, whose performance was a total ENERGY-SUCK. The script needed more punch, and unfortunately they didn't even polish up the "cabaret" number, which would at least have reminded us of how bright and shining Marilyn could be and would have made the film a must-see over the years.

I like some movies from this era, but this one bored me- the original joke wasn't funny enough to sustain a whole movie.

This movie is adorable. While Marilyn Monroe overplayed her character, almost every woman has known a girlfriend just like her character. Just an enjoyable movie. Worth watching!

That pretty much sums it up. Don is great, but creepy as hell as the guy who sees a girl(Marilyn) and falls in love at first sight. He pretty much kidnaps her and takes her with him everywhere and tries to get her to marry him. The ending was predictable, and I was mad, but aside from that, it was a cute movie. I love the 50's acting and the accents were cute. Not for people that seriously critique movies and pick out little things every few seconds. Just good, fun entertainment.
