Emmy Award-winning director Tom Hooper (John Adams) teams with screenwriter David Seidler (Tucker: A Man and His Dreams) to tell the story of King George VI. When his older brother abdicates the throne, nervous-mannered successor George "Bertie" VI (Colin Firth) reluctantly dons the crown. Though his stutter soon raises concerns about his leadership skills, King George VI eventually comes into his own with the help of unconventional speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Before long the king and Lionel have forged an unlikely bond, a bond that proves to have real strength when the United Kingdom is forced to flex its international might. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I've been a House of Windsor-watcher for a long time. And it's fascinating to learn something new. Although I knew that King George VI stuttered, I'd never heard about Lionel Logue, the King's Australian speech therapist. A rich and satisfying film that deserves every accolade it receives.

I don't know how true any of this was (or wasn't), but I really enjoyed the story and recommend the film highly. Colin Firth is outstanding and makes this worth watching all by himself, and I have always liked Helena Bonham Carter (who also shines in this). Put it on your list if you haven't seen it.

What a good quality movie with historic substance as it's value. It's amazing the physical problems that could take one down if one let it. As usual Colin Firth delivers and so does Geoffrey Rush as well. Excellent.

Absolutely wonderful! Except for the episodes of therapeutic cursing Christians might be warned about and that young children should have explained thoroughly or simply don't let them see this until they're older, this was a SPLENDID film! I know about the cursing thing and even though I'm not sure how it works in the brain, it does indeed work for this brain malfunction as well as other types of painful or terribly mind-absorbing situations and/or conditions, so was not a contrivance to add "verve" to the film. The acting was perfection, the costumes and sets gorgeous, and we were transported to another world for a couple hours, which is the purpose of film as far as I'm concerned. I must also add that I was once again thoroughly amazed at the fabulous performance by Geoffry Rush. Santa's already added this film to our list of "Must Own"s this year. Pay attention carefully and you'll see some extraordinary photographic symbolism, as well as a couple "eggs" that weren't edited out.

Great film about King George VI, who is struggling with a speech impedement. Fantastic performances from everyone especially leads, Firth and Rush.
