A bullied little boy grieving the death of his mother strikes up an unlikely friendship with a Metallica-loving anarchist in this tender yet unsentimental childhood drama. In the wake of his mother's recent death, 13-year-old TJ (Devin Brochu) finds the bumpy road to emotional recovery all the more difficult due to the dual facts that he’s bullied at school and that his father (Rainn Wilson) has become a vacant pill-head. Just when it seems like things couldn’t possibly get any worse, TJ strikes up an unusual friendship with Hesher (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a greasy-haired anarchist with a beat-up van, homemade tattoos, and a soft spot for explosions. The next thing TJ knows, Hesher is sitting in his living room and watching porn on the family television. hesher was very absurd to me it has nothing good for our young viewers it only show violence hate porn movies like this should not involve young actors,what are we learning,worst movie ever not worth watching is profane and fulish. i started to watch it it was so but them turn it off ,its part reality part negative,waste of talent.

Very of the map. Out of the box synicle rebellion to what really matters. They take this crazy guy and try to turn him into a kind of hero for a father and son suffering from tragic events. Some parts were funny but not really worth the time it took to watch. Sorry just not a good movie. I would have expected more from Natalie Portman. "The Swan"and "Star Wars1,2,&3" This show a step down for her.

The film could have used another re-write and revisiting of what direction to take the lead character, Hesher, in. It definitely has some fine moments, with some issues being explored, but the film would have worked better if they just tweaked the relationships at times. Great acting throughout - obviously a less-than-demanding role like this was a walk in the park for Portman. Gordon-Levitt is excellent and convincing. Fantastic final two scenes.

    Hesher is a likeable but unpredictable and sometimes violent agent of chaos and change in a family recovering from a tragic death. It's a well-written story, though odd and often dark. It will definitely hold your attention.
