Michael Farr (Ciarán Hinds of Munich) is a depressed widower who teaches shop in the small seaside town of Cobh, in County Cork, Ireland, where he lives with his two children. While he continues to adjust to life without his beloved wife, who died two years earlier, he begins to experience strange, possibly supernatural occurrences connected to his elderly father-in-law, who is close to death in a local nursing home. When Michael volunteers at the town's annual literary festival, he's assigned to look after Lena Morelle (Iben Hjejle of High Fidelity). Lena is known for her ghost stories, and Michael, impressed with the realistic nature of her writing, shares his recent experiences with her. While Michael and Lena grow closer, another famous author, Nicholas Holden (Aidan Quinn), a married man with a scandalous reputation, arrives in town for the festival, hoping to rekindle a brief affair he had with Lena a year before. As Michael and Nicholas clash over Lena's affections, Michael's supernatural visions grow more vivid and disturbing. The Eclipse was directed by Irish playwright Conor McPherson (The Actors), from a script by McPherson and author/playwright Billy Roche, loosely based on the story "Table Manners" from Roche's collection Tales from Rainwater Pond. The film had its world premiere at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, where Hinds won the award for Best Actor in a Narrative Feature. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

You have got to be kidding. . .those of you who gave this stinker anything higher than half a star (and I'm being generous). This thing is more boring and slower, than my computer booting up.

I love Ciar''n Hinds. He was great for the part, Ceasar of Rome. HBO SERIES. You give him the script and he can pull it off. The movie was not a suspenful movie. It was an ok movie. Hinds should be offered more of his talent. He was the movie! KC

a nice story, interesting and entertaining. Wasn't a lot to it--scarey only at brief times--If you're looking for a horror show, this isn't it. If you want a nice story then this is entertaining. I wish that they had English subtitles because I'm heard of hearing and find I get more of the story reading rather than trying to decipher the Irish accents

It had potential but we really couldn't follow it we ended up turning it off half way through. Maybe we werent in the mood for this type of movie

The movie seemed to have no point. Maybe the director was trying to make some point about the possibility of ghosts. But if he was going there I sure missed it. Good cinematography and music, and it did have a realistic ending, but otherwise 86 minutes that I wish that I had back.

watchable but not very scary. Really slow movie with no real plot I should have pasted on this one.

This was quite good and there were some scary parts that made me jump off the couch! There were also some very unexpected parts - enjoy!

I like Ciaran Hinds as a actor, he is very good, but this movie was too slow and really didn't explain too much of what the movie was about.

It was terribly boring. Hard to watch.

This is one of those movies you either going to love or absolutely hate. Although the acting was quite good, the movie itself didn't make a whole lot of sense. It is a horror movie wrapped around a love triangle where nobody wins the girl and there is no explaination for the supernatural occurances. The movie's ending literally does not exist. The last scene is a man walking his dog on the beach while the credits roll. No resolution to either the love triangle or the ghosts. This is a definate misser.

Excellent. My gf and I are horror buffs and we were looking for a movie on demand. We chose this by default and expected it to be more of a drama, but there were several scares that made me jump and made my gf legit. scream. Aside from the scares, the plot and the acting were GREAT too. Will make you laugh and maybe cry too - - great, great film.

Whenever Ciaran Hinds appears in a new movie, I can't wait to see it. He's one of my favorite actors, for sure! "The Eclipse" is a compelling story that revolves around bereavement, love, supernatural happenings, and acceptance of the inexplicable. Excellent cast. Beautiful Irish setting. Mysterious music. I don't consider it a horror movie.

Good acting, but the story didn't make any sense at time. Too confusing, and too slow; for my likes. Not recommended!
