In this gritty spy thriller, Helen Mirren plays a retired Mossad agent named Rachel. Once upon a time, Rachel was part of a celebrated trio of secret agents who tracked down a Nazi war criminal in East Berlin in 1966 -- an incident so applauded in history, that now, three decades later, her own daughter has just published a book about the exploits. But one of Rachel's former partners in espionage, David (Ciarán Hinds), seems less than reverent about his memory of the time, and he proves his feelings with a decision that sends Rachel and her other former partner, Stephan (Tom Wilkinson), on a forced revisit through time. For 30 years, Rachel has been living one truth, but now, as the past collides with the present, a new and deadly story begins to emerge. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

really enjoyed this movie, great plot, just enough action and a twist at the end - would recommend to anyone who is tired of the typical crud that is made today. A movie who makes it on story and acting and not over the top violence or special effects.

Saw this in a theater today... very good. As expected, it had a twist, was not expecting the twist that it had, I like when that happens. I have not seen much with Helen Mirren that I did not like.

The Debt doesn't light up the screen enough to be anything more than okay. Staged around a handful of actors, the plot doesn't dive too deeply into character backgrounds. For what it's worth the story holds enough interest not to fall apart, but all together this is one Debt that needn't be paid in full.

I disagree with the other reviewers. If you kept up with the flashbacks this was an engaging story of ethics and conscience within a hardcore intelligence agency.

Great story that could have been told better, but still a good movie.

I found the movie boring with a few decent moments. Helen Mirren is in less than half of the movie.

What the heck is wrong with you people!? What does hold your attention? If having to watch a movie from begining to end is to much of a challenge for you i would say dont watch anything more than the wiggles with your 2 year old! You missed out on a great movie.

It was fascinating to watch this very well acted story within a story of the courage, tenacity and faults of three committed post war hunters of a nazi Mengela like character whose cunning and guile was a chilling reminder of the evil of the time.

The movie was a bit hard to follow initially as they flitted between present day and memories of what they did in the past in order to reach this point where they take the doctor down for his past transgressions. The movie is intense and you must pay close attention or you miss alot. It is a dark drama and not meant to entertain but more to educate.
