Director Zack Snyder teams with screenwriters John Collee and John Orloff to adapt author Kathryn Lasky's popular series of children's books about a group of kidnapped owlets who take flight to save their kingdom from an ancient evil by locating the legendary Guardians of Ga'Hoole. As a young hatchling, Soren would sit transfixed whenever his father would tell the tale of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole and their tireless efforts to defeat the malevolent Pure Ones, whose aim was to exterminate the entire owl population. After hearing the high-flying tales of adventure, Soren would fantasize about gliding through the clouds with the brave owl soldiers while his jealous older brother, Kludd, attempted to gain their father's favor by becoming a skilled hunter. One day, Kludd's anger gets the best of him, and the next thing he knows he's tumbling over the edge of the nest with Soren. But instead of falling to the ground, the siblings are quickly snatched up by the dreaded Pure Ones, and are taken to a place where their parents will never find them. Incredibly, Soren and group of fearless young owls manage to stage a daring escape. With the future of the owl kingdoms hanging in the balance, brave Soren and his newfound friends travel to the ends of the earth in hopes of finding the mythical Great Tree and convincing the Guardians of Ga'Hoole to help defeat the Pure Ones once and for all. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The animation is unbelievable. Definitely going to pave the way for animated movies in the future. It looked more realistic than real life does. The story was actually pretty good too. I saw it just to see the animation but was taken in by the story which isn't very complex but detailed enough to keep you into the movie. There was comedy, action and drama. I recommend watching just for the sake of the animation and you'll be pleasantly satisfied with the plot.

I was totally blown away with this awesome movie from my pre-conceived expectatons of the movie. Frow the very beginning the animation and photography was breath taking. The plot/storyline was predictable and we have seen it before--good vs evil but I guarantee you have never seen this type of treatment in any other movie. As the plot evolved the movie became almost "spiritual"--two brothers jealous of the father's favor, one rebelious son out to prove his manhood who actually becomes the "savior" character of the movie. The detail of the feathers and fur on the owls was quite realistic and awesome. The flight with wide wingspread and the 3D made me feel like I was riding one of them. I even saw a little blue bird fly from two seats on my left into the screen. I recommend this movie very highly although there are several violent fight scenes that may be a bit scary to the younger ones. The good vs evil story prevails and you leave the theater in awe.

This was an absolutely phenomenal movie of faith in the unseen, the power of the heart and commitment to honor who you are in the threat of danger. The music to the sky was wonderful in an almost spiritual sense of empowering one to follow their dreams through to realization.

Technical side -- incredible. Story -- good old good vs evil in medieval-fantasy style. Not overly complicated. And they squeezed quite a lot of events into 90m. It is quite refreshing to watch something new without being subjected to greenies' bs. No, seriously -- not a single reference to humans destroying the earth -- this thing along gives this movie extra star in my books.

I had been waiting to see this, and I'm not disappointed. My 7 and 9 year olds loved it! Had to see it in 3-D also! Great visuals, great story, well worth it. It's a cross between The Lord of the Rings, the Lion King and Chronicles of Narnia. Some of it might be a bit much as far as intensity with the younger children, but overall I highly recommend this movie.

the special effects of the movie were great, the scenery beautiful. Everything was very lifelike, but it seemed to be lacking an actual story. Just went from place to place without much reason

I saw this movie when it was out in theaters, and I LOVED it!!I'm a huge fan of the books, and I HAD to see this movie when it came out.Now I have it on DVD and I can watch it over and over again :) Yeah,it's a kids' movie, but so what?I think adults that are young at heart like me would enjoy it too..there are a few, well, mildly "violent" scenes, but it's the same stuff that's in the books...it's not that bad.I think most kids would enjoy this movie...I know I did :)

THESE RATINGS MUST BE FLAWED ! ! ! How can there be 9 ratings so far with 2 @ 5 stars, 3 @ 4 1/2 stars, 1 @ 4 Stars, 1 @ 3 stars...then ONLY 1 @2 1/2 and a 1/2 star rating to give it a final rating of...........2 and a half stars....SORRY folks but that does not add up at all. The true rating based on the 9 reviews here comes in at 3.72....unless people have been on here giving a rating but not typing a review.
