I didn't understand the main theme of this film, the whys and wherefores so I was left in the dark..too many subtleties and not enough understand- able facts...too bad as I got this film because of Langella's previous brilliant acting past films...maybe if I watch it again I might understand it better..PS: I didn't even catch the rational behind his actions at the outset of the film and of course all the European past world war 2 events..21/2 stars for the attempt...

The movie's story is a little deep and intense. Frank Langella's character isn't developed enough. It left me with many questuons of why did he do what he did. Maybe I missed the point. Slow moving ...

The idea for the movie is great but it turns sour because of too many holes and inconsistancies. However, there is an elegance in the pacing and the directing. It has a sort of film noir character that I found intriguing and interesting to watch. That is really what kept me going. Again, the basic idea is good but the execution of all its parts is not up to snuff. I gave it 2.5 starts simply because I like the style of the movie.

Possibly the worst movie I've ever seen! Boring! If I didn't have the Blockbuster summary of the movie before hand I wouldn't have had a clue as to what it was about, and after it ended I felt that the summary must have been written by a publicist for the film to make it seem more interesting than it was. I suppose that some might say that Langella's performance was understated. I would call it dreary.

I had to comment since the other reviewers both implied that the plot was too difficult to follow. If you normally watch only movies with the complexity of "Die Hard" you may need to watch it with a spouse or someone who can keep answering "what is he doing?", but I really enjoyed the movie and have recommended it to other who like intriguing movies. It is not really a thriller, because the main character chooses to do something at the beginning of the movie that he knows will provoke a hit on him in retribution. The entire movie he is just trying to set up his death on his own terms, not escape his death. The intriguing part is when the second character will figure it out, which will probably be later than you will, and filling in the details as the movie goes along. If this sounds boring to you, it's not your kind of movie.
