I've been very interested in Walt Whitman for a long time and had high hopes for this documentary. Because I knew little about Whitman's concern for individual Civil War casualties, I wanted to learn more. Disappointingly, this film never brought the poet to life for me. The various "talking heads" who gave their views did not exactly set the film on fire. The best part? Hearing (but not seeing) actor Chris Cooper recite Whitman's poetry.
