This iconic musical documentary covers the three-day 1969 music festival on the property of Max Yasger's farm that symbolized the late 1960s in terms of musical, social and political ideology of the era. American audiences are introduced to Ten Years After, featuring guitar great Alvin Lee. Jimi Hendix, The Who and Joe Cocker give riveting performances. As naked flower children romp, the New York freeway is closed because of traffic congestion. Music lovers leave their cars and travel on foot only survive torrential downpours of rain, food shortages and non-stop music. Jefferson Airplane gives the wake up call with their song "Volunteers Of America." Crosby, Stills and Nash deliver a memorable performance. John Sebastian gives an impromptu set with a borrowed guitar from Tim Hardin. Santana, Sly and The Family Stone, Sha-Na-Na, Arlo Guthrie, Richie Havens and Joan Baez also appear. The movie did big box office business and a successful three record set sold millions of copies. The Grateful Dead, Credence Clearwater Revival and Janis Joplin performed but were not shown in the film. The Dead's Jerry Garcia recalled that it was the worst live show the band ever did, ironic for a band known for their spirited live performances. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

Music is great of course and does a nice job of going behind the scenes and showing a bit of hippy debauchery.

Absolutely FANTASTIC !! Santana and their song, "Soul Sacrifice", is still one of the ABSOLUTE BEST film jams ever recorded on any planet, in any solar system !! Carlos Santana and his drummer, are just splendid ! The rest of the movie is a great character study of young people during that time period - the good and the bad - but how we were during a war in Vietnam and unrest in America. The social part of "Woodstock" was even more interesting than the bands, actually - as this event ended the 1960's, before giving birth to the 1970's.

This is a lot better then the original movie, a better behind the scenes look at this historic concert.

Nice to have the added material, but for DVD very poor video quality (audio suffers too.) This was clearly mastered from a poor quality analog master tape.... from the looks of it likely 3/4" But otherwise, fun film to see again. I wish the theatrical version was available too, as it would likely look and sound much better.

The DVD I received did not have Jimi Hendrix, The Jefferson Airplane, nor Carlos Santana and his awesome drummer in it. I was at the Woodstock Arts and Music Festival in Bethel, NY. I know that Janis Joplin was recorded twice. See it for youselves on Woodstock Diary. Those truly interested in Woodstock should purchace the Woodstock Diary. You'll see Janis with her band, Grace Slick singing "White Rabbit", and the Dead. This DVD was dismal & focused on the crowd far more than the artists. The rest of Joplin's work is in someone's vault waiting to be distributed at the right time.

Always have, always will. I watch it every so often for the sheer enjoyment of it all. It's a historical American classic of a one of a kind event that will never be allowed to happen again and all we have left is the film footage to remind us of that special event..

More behind the scenes than I expected and less music. But, that being said, it's nice to remember the 60's and America's social activism - when young adults knew that peace IS patriotic - and we believed if we stood up, spoke out, made a difference that we could create peace and love and true respect for diversity, and equality, in our lifetime.
