A Perfect Getaway (2009) Reviews

A good believable story about a couple on their honeymoon. They are hiking in Hawaii and find out there have been recent murders of couples on the islands. The 1st 45 minutes are real slow and build up the story. Prepare to be surprised with twists and turns once the getting gets good. All is not as it seems and just when you think you know whats going on, you get fooled. It has weird moments and sometimes is all over the place but the last 20 minutes it all makes sense and makes it worth it.

I am a huge fan of psychological thrillers, mysteries and scary movies. Note that I didn't say "horror". That is because the gore is typically unnecessary and used to keep you occupied in the absence of a good plot! This movie was actually very smart. Did I figure it out 1/2 way through, yes, but they did make a valiant effort to throw you off and keep you guessing. It was full of moments that made you jump and get anxious about what will happen next. It's one of those where you KNOW that something is about to happen, but you aren't always exactly sure of what or who it will be. Being a fan of movies that make you have to "think", I enjoyed this one. It wasn't the absolute best that I have ever seen, but is a tremendous amount better than most of the other movies coming out these days. I enjoyed it and if you have a big screen with HD, the scenery alone will make it worth the rental!

OK I won't spoil the ending for you because it has a good twist. In two parts I jumped and the popcorn in my lap flew everywhere. I couldn't stop laughing. It got me good! There are some parts that will make you laugh too. Great. You'll watch it to the end.
