It is mostly in b&w and, I think, meant to evoke some compassion for fellow humans. You can't always tell what a person is feeling from the outside, and this movie lets you care and deal with that. It also explores the question of an eternity separated, vs a lifetime fully engaged. Great movie but not for people who like mainstream, action, chick flicks, or top 10 movies. Granted the movie is slow, but life is slow and to capture life, any great movie will have to be slow as well. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More ...and then one evening, his obsession to be human becomes his only need when he falls in love at first sight...in a small, run down traveling circus tent....when he looks up and sees the girl on the flying trapeze in her chicken feathered angel wings costume. Later, we discover that all she is looking for in life is absolute, unconditional love from someone who would always understand that she is human and would make mistakes. Only her true love would understand her mistakes and never leave her. Filmed in Berlin, Germany where the angels in the archetecture add to the the sense of height and width and greyness of being an angel confined to Earth as a place to simply study, Wings Of Desire is an extremely high quality Film Art Masterpiece worthy of your look-see and to struggle through the subtitles for two hours of your life. for the ordinary person and this film shows that well. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More City of Angels' story was obviously taken from Wings of Desire, which was followed by its sequel "Far Away, So Close" and I must say that I enjoyed watching all three of these movies. It was indeed a pleasure to watch Wings & Far Away, 2 movies that inspired thought for others around us & that we should take a step back before reacting in certain situations. For those complaining about the subtitles, I have a suggestion/resolution: Learn the language or don't rent it. Simple as that! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More If you enjoy "people watching" you should have the patience to watch this film. All movies involve watching the action from outside, so in a sense, this film is like watching someone watching a movie. However, that should not scare anyone who likes observation. I enjoyed the characters very much, liked them all, and felt a real joy in seeing this film. My husband and I came away at the end feeling refreshed and strangley light hearted, as though we had been touched by an angel. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Watching this movie I could see where the movie City of Angels with Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage originated from. Even down to the quote " I can't see you, but I know you are there" comes straight from Wings of Desire. And when the angel falls down from the sky to become human for the love of a girl, was also the same.
Having watched both movies I can honestly say that Wings of Desire did not leave in me the same sweet haunting memory that makes me want to watch City of Angels again and again. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
