Wild Style (1983)

This docudrama celebrates the colorful lives of teens who live in the South Bronx. There they are seen break dancing, creating graffiti art, and listening to raucous rap. The slim story centers on Zoro, who likes to spray-paint subway cars. He gets a break when he is hired to decorate a platform for an upcoming rap concert. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

What made Wildstyle great is not the acting, because most of the people in it were not actors! The authenticity of the movie is what makes it worth watching! This movie contains the 5 elements which make up hip hop, and they are all authentic rappers, graf artists, dancers, dj's, and of course the style (clothes) of the early hip hop set. If you want good acting, watch 8 mile, if you want the original feel of hip hop, this is THE movie.

Sure, the actors are no Denzel's, Pacino's, or Deniro's.... but this still remains one of Hip Hops classic movies. If you don't like this movie it's because you don't understand it. For the people who remember this time in Hip Hop, it is timeless.

I liked "Krush Groove" and similar movies, but this was bo ring. The music was not interesting (they repeated the same song about 5 times) and the actors weren't really actors, they were actual graffiti artists, and it shows. This is a good idea in practice, but it made for a bo ring movie. It would have been better if they made a docu mentary and talked to the artists about what they did, rather than the artists pretending to do what they do normally.
