Story line: I don't understand how the visitors didn't just leave! I would have, rather than put up w/ a couple w/ lots of issues. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

A brilliant work of theatre. Provokes thought, which is rare in anything written in the past 20 years. Be prepared for a rough viewing experience. Mike Nichols first major directorial attempt, he keeps the film low key, lets the actors do the work. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

3 out of 4 people found this review helpful We rented this DVD because we had just seen the play with Kathleen Turner and wanted to compare the two. The play ywas better in that it was not so angry. The movie was very ascerbic. The play was very sarcastic and snide. But never the less funny. There were many laughs in the play. Tayler and Burton seem to hate each other, yet they are tied to each other by there secret.WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

That's one word to describe the whole film. The four leads are equeally wonderful as party guests who verbally assalt eachother all night (with as much profanity that was allowed in 1960's cinema). Again, it's two strait hours of talk, but every bit of it is dark and brilliant. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

If you order the wrong version, you will be sent Disc 2 (special features) and not Disc 1 (the film itself.) This happened to me 3 times--despite personal assurances from Customer Service that I would be sent Disc 1.
When I finally received Disc 1, I was grateful and pleased. This film consists of a lot of drunken sceaming and is diaglogue driven, since there is minimal action involved. Having said that, it's wild, crazy, pathetic, funny and hilarious. Recommended Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More An unforgettably dark night of brutal, boozy, literary jousting that is as superbly written and acted as anything ever filmed. Not for the squeamish, this film must have been REALLY shocking in 1966, and it has lost little of its bite. Too bad Burton didn't win an Oscar for this, as his portrayal is every bit as incisive as Liz's award-winning performance. Kudos to all involved... Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
