Read More Jamal came from nothing, growing up avoiding the police with his brother while raising themselves in the slums of Mumbai. As difficult as it is for an untouchable in India, they were fortunate to escape a gang who exploited children for their own gain. But he's never forgotten his love for Latika, the orphan girl left behind a terror filled night years ago. As a teen, he attempts to rescue her- but fate wouldnât have it. In a final attempt to get her attention, he manages to get on the game show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" and shockingly- answer every question right. Authorities think a slumdog like Jamal could only know the answers by cheating, so they drag him out and try to beat a confession out of him. Itâs here we find his slumdog life gave is exactly what gave him the answers to every question. The way Jamal's life unfolds on the screen is clever story telling . Don't let the first 5 minutes of the film dissuade you- Slumdog Millionaire deserves it's accolades. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Although I had some clue of what the movie was about, from the commercials I assumed she was from a wealthy family and he was from the slums. That was not the case. They, along with other characters, went through hell in this movie. It turned our 'ok' at the end but it was disturbing to see the conditions the people were living in. It was an 'eye-opener'. I liked the movie but probably wouldn't watch it again. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More the formula for this movie is underdog- romance with a thick curry sauce. Poor Jamal is perhaps the ultimate underdog - always facing long odds in a hostile world. Yet he has time to fall in love, so the heart of the story is very common: boy meets girls, and so forth. This movie is vastly overrated, but worth a $1 rental. Read More This film once more proves their ability and prowess of Film 4 producers. But they are als shown to be morally repugnant in that they exploited poverty stricken child stars to make the film. They treated the real âSlum Dogs no better than the characters in the film were treated. Now the film makers stand before an applauding public shamelessly collecting accolade. They know very well that eight Oscars and $326 million in box office receipts have done little so far to improve the lives of the two child stars exploited by them. A few weeks ago the 10-year-old actor Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail was thrown from his hovel by policeman wielding a bamboo stick and ordered out of his home. Minutes later it was bulldozed along with dozens of other shanties in the Mumbai slum he calls home. Evil is done when good people do nothing. It is absolutely evil not to have made certain that that child benefited from the overwhelming wealth at least enough to be safe in his bed. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
