Read More Moody ,somber film that you'll either fall under it's strange spell, or find it all too downbeat. A unique ,though a bit odd western ,with a solid cast (God , they're almost all dead now ) and a well staged Kiowa siege of our heroic family's Texas homestead. And Audrey Hepburn has rarely been more beautiful. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It was a different kind of western in that the main theme was racial prejudice. The film seemed a little modern for the 1950s, in this respect, where most Westerns were basically "shoot em ups". The cast and acting was first rate. My wife and I are big fans of Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn. It's a tough stretch believing Hepburn as an Indian, but that was so often the case then. Bigotry, jealosy and a frontier to contend with. Audrey is completely unbelievable as a native american, but holds her head high and addresses the role as if it were Tiffany. I have some problems with wooden acting by others in the cast. Hollywood always has the enemy for whom wholesale slaughter seems appropriate, this film came from the era when Injuns were stereotypically evil torturers who all deserved to be killed. Not the finest hour. Still I gave it a high mark for the value is has being an exemplar of a studio blockbuster of the era. This is kind of a "Searchers" in reverse, the whites have the indian girl. As a love story, it gave me problems. Which is why this review is not very coherent, sorry. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Westerns of that era glamorized ruthless killing of Native Americans. However , at least they did a good job at making you feel like perhaps the Indians were the bad guys as they may have done something rephrensible to deserve their maltreatment.Contraily, this one is hateful of âInjunsâ without any reason.
This movie is the opposite of timeless. The acting and writing is bad & flat. The characters are shallow and boring. One doesn't get to feel close to anyone. None are likeable or believeable & some of them are just down right goofy.
Roman Holiday or Sabrina were timeless but this will leave you wanting to forget you ever watched it and feeling unmoved by performances.
I'm left only with disgust with for all bewilderment that the actors would agree to flat &dishonorable roles. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
