When speaking of Laurel and Hardy's first feature film Pardon Us, Stan Laurel described it as "a three-story building on a one-story base"-in other words, a 2-reeler stretched and bloated into 6 reels. Much the same could be said of Blake Edwards's Blind Date, though one wonders if Stan Laurel could have even gotten two reels out of its wafer-thin premise. At the outset, yuppie Bruce Willis is warned not to let his blind date, southern belle Kim Basinger, drink anything stronger than lemonade. So what does Willis do the first chance he gets? That's right, kids; he plies poor Basinger with champagne. And then he wonders why his life rapidly goes to hell in a handbasket. In his first starring movie role, Bruce Willis manages to find all sorts of nuances in his one-note role, while Kim Basinger is very funny when she's blotto-at least, for the first five minutes or so. John Laroquette costars as a character straight out of a 1920s bedroom farce; he's also pretty good, even though his dialogue is numbingly unamusing. Blake Edwards is famous for his ability to make a lot out of a little...but there has to be a limit somewhere. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Don't be turned off by how old it is. This is the type of comedy that is not "forced funny." It even keeps you at the edge of your seat while your watching it. Trust me, you'll enjoy it.

This is not one of those Jim carrey slap stick comedy. This is based on believable situations. One of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I recommend "Amos & Andrew" (N Cage, S Jackson)

Very disappointing , considering the talent involved. It has some funny moments, but way too much of the film falls flat. It’s predictable and too slow moving. Forgettable, very ordinary.

I don't agree with the "official" synopsis of this movie. I and my wife both found this movie fun to watch. Yes, a little bit slapstick, but some of the situations that developed were different and funny and there was continuous action once the "plot" developed. It is also a good movie to show someone considering a blind date... think twice! :)

In view of the acting talent, this story is disappointing at best. It is saved only by the uproarously funny incidences.

This is one of the greatest "romantic" comedies ever made (in my humble opinion...:) . Featuring two stars in the prime of their abilities, the chemistry and comedic timing is superb. Blake Edwards did a masterful job with "Blind Date", imbuing it with a timeless quality which transcends the years since its release. Unlike many other film of this genre, the plot does not become sappy, or cliched. The pacing is very good and the 95 minute viewing time passes effortlessly. This film is not only funny, but is fairly safe for the whole family (with a pg-13 caveat, of course). If you're a fan of Bruce Willis, you would be silly to overlook this film. Try it! You (may) like it!

Yes, I saw this movie a long time ago and laughed soooo hard. I watched it again later when I had the chance and still laughed throughout. So I think it is a funny movie, and I will watch it again, it's that type of funny movie.
