This is a sci-fi must see. I did not see it until a year ago and I am so sorry that I waited that long. Harrison Ford and Daryll Hannah steal the show. It has just enough suspense to keep me interested. I am not a sci-fi type of chick but I loveed this film.

Based on a story by Phillip K. Dick, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep," Blade Runner is concerned with the questions of what makes us "human," and if memories can be planted in my mind how would I know what is "real" and what is not. He also covered this ground in the story "We Can Remember it for You Wholesale" which was adapted by Hollywood into Total Recall. Are your memories yours or someone else's? Does that make them any less real? How can you tell? If a machine can think, feel, and love is it still just a machine? Harrison Ford's Decker starts to wonder if he may be a replicant as well. The movie is really a psychological thriller in science fiction clothes. Other movies made from Phillip K. Dick stories are the aforementioned Total Recall, Screamers, Paycheck and Minority Report.

Very dark, dreary view of the future. A good movie that's defintely worth seeing. Blurs the line between good and evil.

This movie is the essence of what good science fiction is: a character study in which technology provides the impetus, not the focus, for the dramatic action. The central motif of the novel--not knowing who is a human and who is a replicant--is carried out to perfection in the movie. The directors add to the story by fleshing out the technocratic oligarchy of the novel's setting. The special effects are far more eye-popping (so to speak) than anything envisioned by LucasFilms because they seem to be as natural as the polluted air the characters breathe. The movie foreshadows the effects of global warming, advancements in biotechnology and cloning, the return (or ascendance) of colonial imperialism, while at the same time exploring the nature of what a human "soul" might be.

Harrison Ford being 30 years old is a stretch, oh wait, this movie was filmed like a hundred years ago. The story line is serviceble in today's environment, but it just kinda stinks if you only watch it for the first time now. It is so old. The effects aren't great, it is so dark and predictible. It just seems done before, probably because it was a classic and everyone copied it over and over, so you feel like you watched this movie a billion times.

I'm not a huge sci-fi fan and thought this movie was boring - and dark, real dark. They seriously need more light bulbs in the future... The set design was fascinating at first but even that wore thin as the story slowly plodded along. The main characters were cold and wooden and I had little interest in any of them. Obviously alot of people think this is a great movie, but to me, the casual sci-fi observer, it was dull, dull, dull.

I remember watching this when I was a kid and liked it, but it wasn't this Director's cut. I love Sci-Fi, but this movie bored me to death. Most of the scenes could've been cut in half or left out completely. I think the director was having fun creating an atmosphere with funky props, people, and music, while boring me to death. This movie doesn't really stand the test of time. The music, hairspray, and concept of the future is totally 80's.

This movie came after the Star Wars trilogy, so no it didn't break ground for science fiction movies as mentioned in the other reviews. I love Harrison Ford, but this movie bored me to death. Don't watch it if you are the least bit tired. I love science fiction, but unless you are a big time science fiction nerd, don't bother.
