this is a great family movie. my 10 year old son wasn't enthusiastic because it was a girl main charecter, but he really enjoyed it in the end, and my 6 year old loved it too.

It was great to see Jodie Foster again - she's a great actress, and of course I am madly in love with Gerard Butler (even without the Phantom mask!) and Abigail Breslin did a great job as Nim. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of Nim being so competent surviving on her own vs. Alex being so completely neurotic. It was also very clever seeing Alex and Alexandra interacting. I would have preferred dream-like scenes rather than animation when the story of the loss of her mother was told, however, they were short and well done. I liked the ending scenes that briefly showed "they all lived happily ever after" and did not need more specifics about how Alexandra overcomes her fears.

Super survival skills of a single parent Dad and his 12 year old daughter were unreal but inspiring. Weak and phobic action hero author unusually played by Jodie Foster was refreshing and attention grabbing. Overall it was an entertaining movie but I expect the ending to be better wrapped up.
