The game cast does what it can to provide a few charming moments (like the lesson in seduction). And it takes an awfully long time for the band to finally play some music -- which turns out to be joyous, something the movie ain't. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Don't expect an over the top laugh out loud humor. If you like the Napoleon Dynamite type of humor, you will like this one. If you like foreign movies, you will like his one, although it may be a little harder to understand some jokes withough prior experience with this region of the world. To the reviewer who said this movie offended Egyptians: Get a life and some sense of humor to go with it. This movie intentionally stays out of politics and, if anything, made me respect arabs as individuals much more. Very cute movie, great every-day characters and a well-hidden message for whoever gets it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More A lovely, subtle, cross-cultural comedy that reveals the universality of human loneliness while celebrating the inner strength of the individual to bear his or her own loneliness while reaching out to the loneliness in others. Wonderfully absurd images at times. I highly recommend this film. Somewhat in the vein of 'Schultze Gets the Blues' & 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More This well-intentioned sentimental slice of Israeli existentialism is unbearable on two levels: First, Despite good acting, it moves so slowly it's like watching paint dry. Second, it is sad to think about Israeli filmmakers working so hard to show Jews and Arabs coming together over simple human pleasures like music and romantic attraction when the only movies Arabs see about Jews are reminiscent of Nazi propaganda. What is tragic about this film featuring an Egyptian band of musicians is knowing that it will never be shown in Egypt, a country that takes 2 billion dollars in US aid every year for not going to war with Israel but continues to teach Jew hatred to its children in schools. I waited for the band to play, expecting that it would liven things up, and eventually they played. AT THE LAST 3 MINUTES OF THE FILM ! And it did NOT liven things up. I should have learned by now that any film that gets a dozen or more foreign film awards is not worth watching. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
