I watched this movie with my 10 year old girl and 8 year old boy. We all loved it! It was great for them to see how people adjust when times get tough.

Fun to watch, great production values, cool cast and the kids (girl 9 and boy 11) really enjoyed it. One caution. Though definitely (and appropriatley) a soft-focus view of the 30s, it did give a good introduction to key themes of the era. The politics of the era (New Deal, WPA, FDR) are cast in a heroic light, though, which may or may not reflect viewers' understanding of the era.

The movie started out a little slow but once the plot and the story starting playing out, I became engrossed in the innocence of the little girl.....the story became intriguing when the search for the real thief was taking place.....Also, the end of the movie with the return of her father was extremely emotional and the movie gave me an interesting perspective of what it may have been like to live through the great depression era. I would recommend this as a movie for the entire family.

My wife and I watched this with our 11 year old granddaughter and enjoyed every minute of it. This is the way family movies should be. This reminded me of the shows I used to watch growing up and I am glad someone was bold enough to make such wholesome family film. I think any baby boomer, like me, can relate to this story and the style in which it was shot. I see so many similarities to when I grew up in the late 50s and early 60s that I can relate to.

Yes it can be a bit slow moving but not in a way to take away from the movie. I watched it with my son and his friend (9 years old) and I thought at first they wouldn't like it because it looked like a girl movie but I was wrong they really liked it as well as myself. Great family flick. Good lessons for all too. Abigail Breslin is fantastic!
