I'm a foreign film lover so "reading" my movies isn't an issue. The slow factor was my only problem. I LOVED the perspective inside someone's mind when they can't verbally communicate. I would have enjoyed more of a narrative of the man's life being shown. I can only give it three stars, but I think it's a movie we'd all benefit from viewing. It shows how one man managed to accept and find some joy in his tragic life. He is completely paralyzed by a stroke and uses only his left eye to communicate with nurses, doctors, family, and friends. The film does have flaws because at times the emotional impact is weaker than expected but the story and acting are solid and filled with poetry and thought provoking questions about life, love, God, etc. It will definitely make you appreciate life and count your own blessings. Read More Great story of persistence, courage, and intellectual engagement of a totally paralyzed man. Despite the odd camera angles, this technique really worked to capture Bauby's perspective. Though it is in French, you have a choice to have the English translation for English dialogue or subtitles, if you prefer to read. In fact, you can have both turned on at once and compare the spoken English to the subtitle. Odd arrangement but it works. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

If you're unable to empathize with the condition of the main character you better go looking for your humanity, because it seems you lost it somewhere along the way. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I'm glad I did not have prior knowledge. This film really made me think and feel and it was very poetic. This is one of those rare films that actually takes you out of life and into the film. Great great movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
