The screenwriter's, director's, editor's and actor's ability to actually make you feel like you are "locked-in" yourself is outstanding. This definitely is the type of movie which inspires deep thought and conversation and sticks with you forever. Bravo to everyone involved. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Anyways......this movie does a great job of depicting a former fashion magazine editor living in Paris with his mistress/girlfriend who is suddelnly paralyzed. How he and his family copes with this sad event is beyond amazing. Trust me, its worth reading the subtitles to learn about his quest to communicate and still find happiness in life. Read More i watched this movie with my 3 "20 something" sons over the holiday weekend- clearly not holiday fluff this film encouraged and enlightened our sense of hope and purpose. the photography beautifully illustrated the power of mind over matter. we could be nothing but hopeful and motivated to let go of the stuff of life that keeps us from living our lives. I made assumptions in the first 15 minutes about some obvious plot. However, it was played out in a very wise and interesting way. I'm blown away that they could do such a good job with this concept. No, it's not a feel good movie. But you don't leave depressed either somehow. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Definitely not a typical film... It is shot in first person, and is based on a memoir written by the main character himself, the late Jean-Dominique Bauby who, after suffering a stroke that left him in a locked-in (vegetated) state, dictated the whole book to a transcriber by repeatedly blinking his left eyelid about 200,000 times. The acting/picture/directing is ingeniously tailored to the script, and lifts the film to a whole new level. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More I have a unique perspective, having endured a very similar experience (quadriplegia) following a car crash, prior to regaining speech. It's as accurate as anything I've ever seen, with the proper mix of grief, frustration, humor ("'tis but a flesh wound" got me through rehab) and hope. And if there's no Disney ending, what of it? We'll all need to come to grips with that.
Highly recommended for anyone who can read subtitles. And if you can't, blink twice. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
