Beautiful film, beautiful cinematogrpahy. If you watched the film and understood that it was from the perspective of someone who lost everything except his sight, then you would agree the way the film captured everything, was extraordinarily well done. God forbid you have to read text in a film. If you did your research before renting it you would know it was a foreign film about a paralyzed man.

Amazing- powerful-life changing. The story is beautifully told and worth watching.

This was an amazing movie portraying a real life circumstance that can hit any of us, anytime. It was just incredible to have the camera mimic what life is like in an immobile body, and how one must move on. The reaction and interaction of others is really interesting to see (again, from the stricken perspective). The invaluable skills and compassion of the treatment staff are just magnificent, and thank God Mr. Baubi was able to get the patient assistance he needed to write his book and tell his harrowing tale. The life he had had, and the life he was able to construct are really something to see.

People didn't like the movie because they had to read? Would you rather some terrible dubbing. Did you also not like Pan's Labyrinth because it had subtitles? This was a very good movie (not great) that may not have the glamour of Spielberg but it did have the qualities that make you think about the characters for long after it is over.

This is a great movie, at first it was a little slow but got much better. And if you go to set up and click on english for sound, the is in english and you don't have to read subtitles.

This movie is absolutely beautiful. I don't want to spoil any part of it; it's best if you go in without any preconceptions. If you can handle subtitles (it's in French), watch this movie today.

Great camera work -- the world as seen through the eyes of a paralyzed invalid. Although some may have found it uplifting, I found it depressing. A classic illustration of monumental struggle for few rewards -- and then you die. The movie had some humor, although it was quite grim. Definitely NOT one of my favorites!

Beautiful movie, very touching. Amazing acting from Almaric. The camera movement is just fantastic, particularly the first 30 minutes. Only problem , the subtitle does not translate always the nice play of words ...But I am agree with the choice of Schnabel (see extra on the DVD) to keep the French language and turn the movie on the clinic where jean Do was hospitalized. Just the best movie of the year 2007 with the Coen movie.

This movie was a little unsettling for me because I am so claustrophobic. Makes you want to make sure that you have your health directive filled out because this movie shows what being in a state of complete stroke is like. No life supports for me. And BTW...if you go to the settings of this movie you can choose English so that you do not have to watch it in French.
