Sex just doesn't do it. Dex, a likeable guy doing unlikeable things. His Dad taught him to "feel" good by unchaining his hideous Dark Passenger to hurt those more heinous than he, and by inference the "rest of us" ! Doing bad things for good reasons. We, like Dexter, pretend a lot of things to get through our day, and Ole Dex is a reflection of all who live secret lives. Michael C. Hall, an almost petite actor with a penchant for "Darkness" is Dexter perfectly realized. This series IS the book; its message never screams, merely serves macabre humor mixed equally with grisly horror, and suggests we not take ourselves too seriously, even when doing seriously awful things to one another! "Dexter" offers Truth without sacrificing entertainment, originality, and a cast of characters much like the people you meet at school or in the office each day. THAT's the scariest reality of all. The entire season was suspenseful, and Michael Hall makes you feel like you are inside the head of the main character as he lives life day to day. The ending to the season is the best I've seen a long time. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Can you really love a serial killer? Is the taking of human life, even sub-human life wrong? If the police can't do their jobs should some masked crusader pick up the slack?
In this first season, we get to know Dexter, feel his isolation from humanity, even as he tries to fit in with humanity by getting a girlfriend and keeping up appearances.
As was already stated he is a blood specialist for Miami Metro PD. His whole life is blood. He lives it, he breathes it. He was born in it. The real question is will it also be his downfall?
Highly Recommend!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More The First Season of Showtime's Dexter is an excellent introduction to a serial killer who works for the good guys, on both shifts. He is a blood specialist at the Miami Police Department by day, and by night cleans the streets of Miami with a chilling expertise. We accompany the serial killer of serial killers (and all around bad guys) as he goes throughout his day, accompanied by flashbacks of lessons from his adoptive father Harry Morgan. Michael C. Hall plays a flawless, full character, and his Dexter Morgan is the highlight of the show. The only negative I have is the other actors are at times almost cheesy, but with the riveting play with words and narration by Dexter himself, it is forgivable. All in all, I fell for this show, hook, line, and sinker. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

His background is vague until about disc 3. I have watched the first 3 DVDs and all I can say is "SWEET!" They do a good job of tying everything together... he works for forensics!!! it all makes sense!!! His love for blood, his fascination with the killer... all of it. In fact, if I watched it twice, the only "X" factor I could think of would be his sister! I HATE the police LT... PLEASE... SOMEONE, KILL THAT BLANK!!! Still, AWESOME!!! Loving it... I got one more DVD to watch to complete season 1; can NOT wait for season 2!!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
