Very good show, you won't be bored. It gets you from the start with all the scandles. It's hot and sexy. So what if it's NOT historically accurate.

Jonathan "Crazy Eyes" Rhys-Meyers stars as Henry VIII in Showtime's costume drama answer to HBO's "Rome." The 10-episode season 1 follows Henry's attempt to divorce his first wife Catharine of Aragon (a ballsy Maria Doyle Kennedy), shack up with Anne Boleyn (played to duplicitous perfection by Natalie Dormer) and make some Catholics very angry along the way. Although at first you feel like you're watching a bunch of oversexed, anachronistically groomed Calvin Klein models play dress up with feathered hats and puffy pants, stick with this series: it gets better and better. Episode 7, in which Henry goes insane trying to avoid an outbreak of the sweating sickness epidemic, marks a season apex in which Rhys-Meyers gets to expand his character from simply shouting very loudly to a brilliant study of hypochondriacal madness. If the writers stick with a one-wife-per-season policy, "The Tudors" could end up being on the air for a very, very long time. Boleyn in '08!

Overall I thought this series was superb! I was however very dissapointed they didn't use a Spanish actress to play the part of Catherine of Aragon! I understand this singer/actress is Irish and spoke with such a heavy accent, being Spanigh myself, I didn't understand a single word she said in Spanish! I had to read the English subtitles to understand what she was saying when she spoke. Still, aside from slight flaw, and some historical liberties, the series rocked! Can't wait for Season 2! I highly recommend this series!

Nudity...for what reason? Not a one of the sex scenes helps to tell the tale or get you to understand the characters better. Just sex for sex sake. This series dismisses all the customs of the day and paints modern Sex in the City values onto the canvas of Henrys time. This is why the BBC will best American TV everytime. Our TV mogules are to lazy and fearful to get it right. Shame on you Showtime for this horrible series.

Don't bother renting this unless you're into a lot of nudity and graphic sex. This should be with Penthouse and Play Boy.

This series is BEYOND bad. It is ludicrously historically inaccurate to the point of being offensive. I could only make it to the Field of the Cloth of Gold segment in the second episode before I just couldn't take it any longer. The remainder of the disks in the series are being returned unviewed. Starting with hopelessly miscast, pouty, diminutive America's Top Model reject Rhys-Meyers as the robust Henry VIII, it just gets worse and worse. Other than 300, it is hard to think of anything in recent years that has been such an abortion of history, and at least 300 could excuse itself as a live-action comic book.
