Few movies can make you laugh and cry .Best acting, direction and music of any movie of 1983. holds up extremely well now. deserved the best picture oscar. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

I could watch this movie a thousand times and still cry, even my husband liked it and he's not big on sappy movies!! I just can't get over how young Jack Nicholson is in it!!! WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

.......... for the best "dramedy" of all time. Everything rings true. Winger's scene at the end of the movie with her sons is a cinematic hallmark.

Read MoreFor some background... I'm a 30 year old guy who grew up in the 80's, but don't really like 80's movies. The hair style, clothes, and music just doesn't do it for me. I decided to rent this movie anyway since it won Best Picture in '83 thinking that it would be an okay chick flick. I watched it with my wife since I figured she'd at least enjoy it. As I watched the movie I got really engrossed in the characters and plot. The first thing that got my attention was the music... it's sounds 80s, but I must admit I really like the soundtrack, especially after you watch up to the tear jerking scenes. The music coupled by the death bed scenes could cause anyone to cry... I held back, but my wife was sobbing by the end of the movie. Give it a try if you haven't already. Excellent. This movie was not the heart-wrenching movie I was expecting. Both of the main characters are terrible to the other spouse. How is that heart-wrenching? I thought they were both disgusting as were most of the characters. I was hoping to see a movie filled with lovable characters. This movie could not have been farther from that idea at all. Maybe it just seemed too dated to me and sometimes there was more overacting than acting.All in all if you cry easily and are bored watch it.Not a very deep movie but will do.
