The Express really hits the mark. The movie does a nice job introducing the viewer to Ernie Davis' early years and provides excellent insight to children's lives in the 1950s. As a child in the 1950s, I remember some of the discrimination accurately depicted in The Express. Dennis Quaid playing Syracuse's legendary head coach, Ben Schwartzwalder, accurately shows how Syracuse's great Jim Brown helps convince Ernie to commit to Syracuse to continue the tradition of representing the team while wearing #44. Quade really nails Ben and his mannerisms. The only thing missing was Ben's unlit cigar, "You know, Reggie (Ben's wife) won't let me light 'em." The movie shows some dramatic on-field incidents and actual quotes, "I'm Jewish!" one of Syracuse's players declares to confuse a racist Texas player. A must see for any true sports nut.

My entire family enjoyed this movie. I also looked up the book and from what I can tell the movie is very factual. Great story of which I was not that familiar with. Great Family movie!!!

The movie was great. Don't let the PG rating fool you if you have younger kids who love football. The movie was full of lanugage not suitable for youger viewers. The language was appropriate for the movie. I just expected with a PG rating the amount bad language would have been much less. This movie should have definitely been PG-13. If you have younger kids who love football, I would view this with caution if at all.

Christmas Love

The Express dates back to when the civil rights movement started, so knowing that this movie is about the white's hating the black's......you may not want to see this movie.
