the script was written for a 5 year old. none of the characters were capable of speaking in full sentences and i found myself yelling "just spit it out!!!" at the tv a few times. i had high hopes for this indie flick. it has its moments, but i won't be watching it again.

This movie was so adolescent and stupid it is barley worth commenting on.

This movie is not good at all. I see what they are trying to do; be clever, witty and use NPR voices peppered with a bunch of "ummms". Super annoying movie that is not as clever as it thinks it is, not even close. Then the movie just ends and you are like "what?" Save yourself 2 hours and do not watch this. Oh and the main character is so self absorbed she is almost unwatchable.

Hannah Takes the Stairs is a raw, low-budget film that puts characterization to the test. Without an excellent performance by Greta Gerwig (Hannah), this movie would be nothing. It is the honesty and naturalness of the dialog the takes the audience's attention. While the movie may not have any fancy special effects, striking action, or melodrama, it does invest you in the world of these young Chicagoans and puts you into their world. It is a short, cute film and while it does not bring too much to the table, it offers enough to be enjoyed.
