Tank (1983) Reviews

Tank (1983)
Member Rating:
James Garner plays an Army officer who puts his hobby to practical use in Tank. Zach (James Garner) moves to a new post in a backwoods Georgia town. Accompanying him is his family --his wife LaDonna (Shirley Jones) and his son Billy (C. Thomas Howell)-- and his prize recreational activity --a restored Sherman tank. Zach strolls into town one night and engages in conversation with Sarah (Jenilee Harrison), a 17-year-old prostitute, who works for the town crime czar and law enforcement authority, Sheriff Buelton (G.D. Spradlin). When one of Buelton's goons gets rough with Sarah, Zach slaps him down. In retaliation for Zach's infraction, Buelton arranges for Billy to be sent to a brutal prison farm on trumped-up drug charges. Zach tries to get Billy released, but to no avail. So he jumps on his trailer, starts up his Sherman tank and heads into town. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

James Garner and C Thomas Howell are the most under rated actors I know. Great movie.

Great movie from the 80's about a career military man using a Sherman Tank to rescue his innocent son from a crooked sheriff, starring James Garner.

I truly enjoyed seeing James Garner in the movie with him as a Army man & husband , & father. He made you want to see the bad guys get there. C Thomas Howell did a pretty good job in his role along with Shirley Jones. Outstanding, very funny to bad more family's don't stand by each when the wrong is being done to others. The whole family enjoyed this movie

This movie was just plain fun! Almost 20 yrs. old, back when Hollywood went for morality rather than too much reality. A dad and his son strengthen their bond; a wholesome, strong marriage is depicted; and a community comes to stand alongside the good guys to let real justice prevail. Minimal on the cuss words, a minor spanking and well-deserved humiliation for the bad guys substitutes as minor abuse that would be portrayed in today's movies as real as it gets. So this was a refreshing, all-American, stand up for justice, at times even humorous, portrayal of loyalty, love, and justice. If the other viewer turned it off... ya' missed a great show... and maybe you should watch "F**k" or walk the halls of the high school I teach in to be truly offended. This one is well-acted, has a good plot, and the good guys win; you can even watch it with the kids... doesn't get better than that!

Incredibly boring. Thought the kids would like it, but it had way too much profanity.

This is the feel-good, red-neck movie of the year. I think I mixed up my desire to see it again with the movie Taps. Tank becomes enjoyable halfway in the movie. It kind of starts out dry with overtones of stuff they put in movies from the 80's and 70's. Mike N.

With a PG rating, the story line would have been more appropriate using a waitress instead of a prostitute. Portraying Shirley Jones as a tough foul-mouthed mother, wasn't endearing either. Garner was believable, but again, with a PG rating, the profaning of Deity was WAY overboard, as was the use of obscenity; not that any of it is acceptable, but at least with a PG13, one might have been made "viewer beware." Southern Law Enforcement as protrayed leaves me leary of doing much traveling in the South, but I know they were being lampooned. Still, given the frequency Southern Law Officers are protrayed that way in movies, it makes one wonder if the truism: "Where there's smoke there's fire" is true here too.

This movie was rated PG. The swearing was heavy. The characters used the Lord's Son's name in vain many times. It left us sick. When they started giving a spanking to the "hor", we turned it off. It was not suitable for any family.
