Read MoreNicely acted and produced, the movie used the unspeakable atrocities of the Germans in WWII to present an ethical dilemma: is staying alive worth losing every ounce of self-respect, including helping evil gain the upper hand?
The prisoners are beaten, killed, humiliated, tormented in every way - except when they help the Nazis create counterfeit money. That's the "humanity's cruelty to humanity" theme, done well in this film as in others. Selling their souls by counterfeiting in return for a real bed, real food, and a chance to survive the years in a concentration camp is the interesting moral theme, and provokes us to ponder what we would do.
The final scene at the poker game and the beach tells us exactly how much the protagonist has changed his moral code. The realist becomes the idealist. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Markowics plays this character flawlessly. I was so aggrevated that I could not set my DVD audio language to English. Do not like to read of what is going on in a movie for enjoyment. Reading at the same time watching the movie takes away from the film. In other words, by the time I read the caption, the scene has changed, did not like that whatsoever. I have seen some movies with subittles that I liked. This is not one of them....and it gave no indication that it was completely subtitled in the description. Don't rent it. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
