BUT when the subtitles are so poorly done, it can't help but ruin a movie. After 50 or more words of dialogue, there are 3 words of translation which say, "Why is he". What in the world is that supposed to mean? This was a disaster from the first frame and didn't get better which is too bad because the storyline was a great one. Don't waste your time or money. Read More I really enjoyed this movie, be sure to watch the interview with the old fella who lived the story and wrote the book. Only thing lacking is question about fate of the main character. If you see a movie listed in the foreign film catagory, there's a good chance that it will have sub-titles. Don't grade this movie poorly because you did not take the time to view a movie trailor (which you would have seen had sub-titles), but grade it on it's excellent content. Read More I guess I really shouldn't write a review about a movie I didn't finish watching, but, Why Oh Why doesn't Blockbuster let you KNOW when one of these things is All Subtitled. If I wanted to read the story I would Buy The Book. If I had known it was one of these craooy subtitled movies I never would have rented it. I tried to watch it anyway but having to read the subtitles and then watch the movie then go back to reading the subtitles ... I rent movies for entertainment. The English version is the director's narration basically telling you how the movie is made. I think the English subtitle was the same director's cut. This totally ruined the movie for me. I stopped watching after 15 minutes.
This may be a great movie...But not in the format that I received.
