Read More Salomon (Sally) Sorowitsch, the main character, is not the type of central figure you can cozy up to. In this inside view of concentration camp life, this impassive master counterfeiter leads a team of prisoners in carrying out the task of creating phony British pounds and American dollars to aid in the Nazi war effort. This film grew on me as I watched it, as Sally's group of printers and artists becomes divided on the whole notion of cooperating with their captors. And, just outside their workshop, they hear other prisoners being beaten and shot. A very original and dark film from Austria that may not appeal to everyone. Read More It is hard to say I liked this movie, not quite as compelling as Schindler's List but interesting and intriguing nonetheless. I love historical movies and this is one but there was something very distracting about the subtitles (nothing said about this being a foreign movie with subtitles), kind of overbearing to the movie and made it much less enjoyable. If this movie had been dubbed in English in the areas where there was dialogue between major characters for the most part, and just subtitled the German soldiers words, it would have been much more enjoyable. Read More Although it wasn't clear from renting the movie that we had to do some reading, all was worth the effort with this amazing movie. Often foriegn movies are hard to follow with the translations; however, this was so well made and was very impressive. Great acting, great story. The special features were also very interesting to hear. A good movie to show to high school students. I really wish someone would remake this into an English version. Read More Jewish prisoners (during World War Two) are conscripted to create counterfeit British money in an effort to battle the Britains on the economic front as well as the battlefield; the prisoners are still treated badly, so it is difficult to watch their treatment. All in all, this film is very well made, and very well edited. This film comes with sub-titles; which I prefer, since it is more distracting to me to see poorly synchronized dubbing. Read More This movie takes place during the second world war, but it is not a fighting acount of the war. It takes place in a consuntration camp in a special secion devoted to counterfeiting British pound notes and some US dollars. To fund the war and damage the econamy. THIS MOVIE IS ALL IN SUBTITLES. So if you don't want to read the movie don't watch it ! It is a good movie and is very informitive. The in depth relationships make the movie. It is not for everyone but I liked it. Enjoy.
