While I was watching it, I though, "What is going on?" But now that is has been days since I have seen it, I think about it a lot and it makes more sense. I should watch it again because these Big Brother is EVERYWHERE types of things chill me to my bones. Good movie and amazing cinematography for being filmed in 1971. Lucas doesn't let you down!! Not like Lucas' subsequent popular films, but sure fits the genre of the early 70's. Stark like 2001, subject like Brave New World without the hysterics. No one knows what is going on, including the audience, and I like that. Very white sets. This is the 3rd time I have seen it. 1st time was 30 years ago, 2nd time about 10 years aog, and yesterday. Each time it was a completely different experience. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More A minimalistic visual style and superb ambient sound design create a dystopia in which there is no evil oppressor, but rather a cold, emotionless bureaucracy. A world in which human interaction is replaced by electronic communication and people buy standardized products simply to go home and recycle them, THX 1138 is determined to escape this pale limbo. 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful Wanted to watch this for a long time. It was my first time seeing it. Just to state the obvious, it's not Star Wars at all. It's a symbolistic movie that breathes and stimulates. It gives a little more insight into Lucas and his gift in the cinematic arts. Take a little time and check this out. Leave your expectations though and you'll be pleasantly surprised.WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

It was long, boring, drawn out and confusing. The middle of the movie had to be fast forwarded as there were many slow moments. The only exciting part of the movie was the end of it and it was short compared to the length of the rest of the movie. Will never ever see again. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? But when it started to get into well somewhat of a story, more of a movie, though that makes no sense, it blew my mind to watch this insanely amazing movie and I promise its deff one of the best movies from the past, ever. Read More OK, so if this was the only film of Lucas's I ever saw, I would think he was a film/philosophy student with a political chip on his shoulder. There are some genuinely good moments in this movie, but are placed too far apart. In between the memorable scenes are seemingly weeks worth of arduous and dry dialogue. Some of the visual tricks used were pretty remarkable given the timeframe and budget for the film. You can definitely see some of the inspiration here for some of the visuals in Star Wars. OK, so not a film I'd see again. But, if you're a Lucas fan, and want some perspective, rent it. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

A lot of the stuff from this movie makes cameos in his later works..."I think I ran over a wookie back there on the expressway," or the two technicians talking about the mark 7. It is worth a rent, but probably not worth a buy. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No |
