Read More Sally Field does a remarkable job portraying Sybil's multiple personalities, and Joanne Woodward as Dr. Wilbur is the perfect supporting actress. This is very real, very intense, and very much worth watching when you can dedicate three hours to it.
(Note that the DVD contains only the movie; the other features are on the bonus disc which I haven't seen yet.)

Read More Sally Field dominates the screen in this disturbingly true-to-life film. Based on a true story, this movie brings viewers right into Sybil's nightmarish childhood and takes them on her journey to healing. While the ending may make the trip worthwhile for most viewers, you'll want to avoid this film if you're triggered by images of child abuse. It's one of those films that's so powerful, you'll want to watch it over again as soon as it ends...but at the same time, you'll want to return it to Blockbuster immediately. Especially interesting for anyone studying psychology--the therapist-client relationship between Sybil and her psychiatrist is fascinating. Overall, a brutally honest film. Read More This really is a great movie to watch if you can break away for a couple of hours. If you ever get to see the COMPLETE movie you'll see how a person with an illness such as dual personalities can suffer. Read the book first and then see the movie, it will open your eyes to many of the characters that Sybil has to come to grips with in recovering from her ordeal and how the right person who understands can make all the difference in the world when it comes to recovery. Read More Absolutely amazing performance and acting by Fields...too real. I was shocked, moved, and brought back to the reality of mental illness and how it can be maintained. When it says she retired to a small college town and became an art professor...I could swear she went to SUNY New Paltz...which makes it even more real! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
