I wouldn't call it a "family" holiday film as there is some adult content here. I really had a good time watching this - laughed and cried and does bring the true and most important essence of Christmas to light. Wonderful performances by all and though it gets a little schmaltzy at times, this is a Christmas movie and we allow a little more schmaltz this time of year...I loved it in this case. This movie was O.k. not a family film for young kids. I didn't like the way they portrayed the mother and her boyfriends relationship as two devout christians just shacking up. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

What a disappointment! MovieGuide describes the film as "an estranged family celebrating Christmas rediscover(ing) long-forgotten bonds."
There was nothing that showed that this family had ever been anything but estranged. The contrived kumbya ending of the clan living "happily ever after" fell flat amidst the prevous portrayal of adult sisters physically assaulting each other, an AWOL Marine brother pulling a pistol in a nightclub, amidst the various forms of immorality accepted by this highly disturbed and dysfunctional family. This is definitely not a "family movie" I would choose for any family I know and the PG13 rating fits well. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

Other than that, it was average in plot with some good actors in it. The actors mostly did an excellent job except for the gal that played a Harvard grad but acted more like a cosmetologist, and the kids were props rather than an integral part of the family.
