It combines a realist aspect with the cartoonish feel of the video games. I love it. I think that anyone who enjoys a good laugh and a nice cheap movie should pick this up. I am not too high and mighty to admit is was corny at points, but I am a sucker for a corny movie. It was good, not my favorite, but good. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More First of all what are going to suspect when it comes to a movie based off a game. Compared to a classic like Mario their wasn't much anyone could do but take the idea and recreate it. I can answer probably all the complaints the reviewers had with this movie. Movies are mean't to be fast exciting and quick paced. A 3-foot goomba waddling towards a full grown man wouldn't seem that exciting as it does in a game hence why they are extraordinarily large. The turtle shells were used for the police as body armor to their "Koopa Patrol" Princess Daisy was the original princess before they brought Princess Peach Toadstool. Luigi has always been the younger brother to Mario. Though the acting was a little choppy in my oppinion it was pretty good. If you try and imagine it as "Mario in Reality" it makes more sense as far as story goes. The seductive content when I was a kid and saw this I had never caught on to it so the content their is suddle. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Pros: First of all the plot and the character design where brilliant. Including the speical effects. They were quite impressive - even compared with today's standareds! The plot moves on with that videogame-adventure feel and action. There is never a dull momment. It keeps you on your seats cheering for Mario and Luigi!
Cons: Mario fans who are looking forward to something close and true to the video game will be a bit dissapointed with his movie. A lot of the characters and story concepts vaguely reflect the classic video game world and characters. Luigi seems like a teenager. Where was Princes Toadstool? She was replaced by Princess Daisy. There is a lot of seductive content (especially the club sences) I found it a bit too strong for a movie geared for kids.
Overall, it is good. Dispite the cheesy re-creation from the real videogame characters and world, it is a film well worth watching. Mario Bros.! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I mean why are the goombas six feet tall!!! There was never one reference to a koopa being a turtle. However, now that I am older, I watch movies purely for the entertainment value and I dont try to put too much into them. If I had never heard of the game, this would be a very neat and interesting film(a little hard to follow). Bob Hoskins makes a great Mario and Dennis Hooper makes a great villian, plus they threw in just enough of the aspects of the game to make it fun!!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More AFter hearing about it, the first thing that came to mind was the horrible TV show with Captain Lou Albano of WWE fame.I was WAY wrong-Not just the head three actors but ALL of the actors and actresses were EXCELLENT in this movie -I believe that they pulled off the most unexpected adaptation ever, from Princess Daisy to King Mushroom they had every part assigned perfectly. Dennis Hooper as King Koopa was equivalent to Jack Nicholson as the Joker. They even had the world of the Mushroom Kingdom convincing with the odd citizens, unusual vehicles( obviously cardboarded present vehicles,I admit..),and the wardrobe that was faintly recognizable but believable.I gave this movie 4 stars and not 5 because they didnt make a sequel, and at the time Super Mario Bros games had/have a great fanbase.I hope they release this film on Blu Ray soon with new material...I reccomend this not only as a fan but as a father of three. But, for all intents, it is a GOOD 90's movie and that's saying something. (But, then again, I love video game movies, the worse the better.) This movie follows Mario Mario and Luigi Mario (hence, "Mario Brothers) into a parallel dimension where lizards and dinosaurs have evolved into human-like creatures, due to a severe lack of costume budgeting. There they rescue the kidnapped Princess Daisy (who is also lizard-based, but was sealed into the human world for safety as a child - and who seriously kicks some tail in this movie, no languishing princesses here!), discover the Toadstool Kingdom, throw a Ba-Bomb, and generally have a rip-roaring time. Safe for kids, but there's something here for adults, too. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Im a big movie person and an even bigger gamer. This movie was a let down, not because of the movie itself but because of what it was supposed to represent. I wish that they would someday scrap this original and go back and try again and do absolutly nothing like they did the first time through. If you have never played Super Mario bros. the Video Game then it would be much more enjoyed, however, if you've played the game then I would be as quick to recommend it. Watch With an Open Mind.
