I must begin by saying that my husband and I did enjoy the movie. My daughter and her husband were not fans - they did not appreciate the corporal punishment shown in the movie. I was not as bothered by its presence because the film is a window into another culture. I also didn't find that it was anywhere near the level of violence to which I would object. But, perhaps it's not appropriate for younger children who might not understand that. I hadn't been expecting the sub-titles. The alien critter, CJ7 itself is adorable. And the silly antics of the kids at school were amusing, mainly because we all know people like each one of them, and it was honest to see that there are similar people in other parts of the world! It's important to know that.

I really liked this movie but I cant say its perfect for children. The violence caused to the poor CJ7 is awful. Even my husband didn't like how the boy abused it cause it wouldn't help him cheat. The only thing my husband could say about it is that hes a young boy with a temper. Still, I don't want my kids thinking they treat people nice but if those people don't give them what they want that abuse them... Other than that a great movie and very very cute.

The whole movie was spoken in Japanese, so it was subtitled. If you can get past that, it's a great movie for the whole family with important messages for the kids. I had to show my son how they created CJ7 so he knew it wasn't real because he got upset a few times. He thoroughly enjoyed it.

It takes a lot for me to purposely find a way to negatively rate a movie - well, it took CJ7. There are no redeeming qualities about this movie. The child and his father are poor and have nothing, but that's no excuse to be also absent of values, integrity, common sense, or compassion . . . The cute alien is what draws kids to the movie, and he is cute, but is abused by an ungrateful and spoiled kid who expects the creature to be his savior. Because the little guy doesn't know how help the kid cheat on his classwork, he gets flushed down a toilet and then thrown away. I may be trying to make a serious critique of comedy film with an absurd premise, by my eleven-year-old daughter and I finished watching this film wondering about a Japanese society (it's a Japanese film, dubbed in English) that might actually find this film entertaining or funny.

Absolutely one of the best family movie i have ever seen. It's like E.T. meets kung fu hustle. This movie has it all, you will not be disapointed.

If I had kids, I would buy this movie for them. It is really really cute. It's in the style of Stephen Chow's other movies (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle) if you have seen them, so expect the same general humor and use of special effects. I found it to be thoroughly enjoyable and would watch it again. It is a Chinese movie, so the original is in subtitles but there is also a dubbed version on the DVD which doesn't really subtract from the movie at all. It's worth a watch.
