The film is intended to serve as a children's movie but it also shows how Chinese film-making has evolved over the years. The CGI and special effects are intentionally cheesy but they serve their purpose in carrying the theme throughout the film. One can see from the ratings here for this movie that it is not appreciated by one and all but if you approach it in the right frame of mind (it's not a E.T. Spielberg movie) it can be quite entertaining. I watched the Blu-ray version and it looked good but not amazing. Close this ReviewWAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes

I'm not a fan of Kung Fu Hustle. I thought Shaolin Soccer was okay. In other words, I am not a Stephen Chow fan, however this movie really shows that the Chow can actually act and Direct.
This is a smart childrens movie. It has it's moments stupidity. But the message here is don't take things for granted and always be an honest person.
Of course the CJ7 alien is a blast.
Bottom Line:
Way better than: Flubber & Spy Kids
Worse than: Iron Giant, ET

This is a very cute movie but the story is very sad. My 5 year old daughter was very upset after one scene and it made her cry. WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes
