It was great! Word of caution for those with VERY young children: The violence is a bit much as is the "backtalking" on the part of the young star. Sometimes I think a 10 to 12 year old wrote part of it, as it fulfilled childhood fantasies. It's perfect for that age. Also, these two adults found it AMAZINGLY GOOD! A MUST WATCH! We LOVED it! Actually the kid is the star here, the story is around her and the alien (yes, she's a girl).
Caution if you are watching it with children, it is a story of poor people in China.
You will see some old tricks from Chow's old movie, but nothing really new. Not as much laugh as in other movies, but you will most likely cry... (no kidding) Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More My kids picked this movie out at the video store and I was prepared for the worst. I thought it was going to be dumb, but I thought it was hilarious and had some good messages. I have watched this several times with my kids and we crack up laughing every single time. The version in the video store gave you the option of hearing it in English, which was easier for the kids. But we didn't realize this the first time, so we watched it with the subtitles and even then it was really funny.
If you're looking for the typical boring American movie with predictable, perfectly drawn outline and conclusion, this is not the movie for you. However, if you are looking for something quirky and funny, this is a good one to pick. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The movie was fantastic in that it captured the attention of several generations. My 12-year-old says, "I thought that the movie was really funny & reminded me of a subtitled version of ET, except for the fact that CJ7 was really cute." The only negative is that it IS SUBTITLED! Unfortunately, it would have to be narrated to my 5-year-old who doesn't read yet. As a parent, I could really appreciate the recurring message of "integrity is more valuable than money!" I loved Shaolin Soccer, but I felt like the culture gap really hurt me on this one. The cruelty which was displayed to the toy was just too much for me, maybe I'm just too Americanized. There was a lot of funny stuff, but so much of the humor was dark that it just wasn't worth it to me. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No
