My kids (and my husband and me!) enjoyed this movie. It is funny and the animation is cute and they watched it over and over.

*NO SPOILERS* First things first, let me clear up some of the confusion that's been caused by other people's reviews. This movie is subtitled, the case clearly states this. Some people are confused as to whether the main character is a boy or girl. The actor in real life is a girl, however in the movie, she plays the role of a boy. Does it really matter?...NO. For those of you who think you are going to get something similar to E.T., I'll save you the time...you're NOT. The last thing is the controversy over the abuse and violence portrayed in the movie. If you are expecting to get something wholesome like Wall-e or Cars, this is not that type of movie. I think this movie borders on PG-13 and if it would have received a PG-13 rating, then there wouldn't be all this controversy. I don't think the movie is worth all the fuss. I think Steven Chow is a wonderful director and a decent actor, but this film isn't as good as his other ones, i.e., Shaolin Soccer. This movie is just okay.

I picked this on a whim drawn by Stephen Chow's name and have to say this is one of my favorite movies I've seen this year. It is absolutely hilarious! I recommend this movie to everyone.

Our family really enjoyed this movie. It is funny, touching, and has a positive message. My kids laughed a lot. This is a movie that is clean, fun, silly (special effects), mixed with real life situations (being poor, dealing with bullies--balanced out with characters that demonstrate love and forgiveness). I have read that there is abuse towards the toy....really? That is just silly. There has been mention in a scene where you will cry, but it cannot be worse than when Bambi lost his mother...for those that said it is too violent--Nonsense! I am very particular about what my little ones and my teenagers watch--it was in no way harmful--it is much safer than Ironman, the new Batman, Spider Man, etc....Don't overlook this one, you won't regret it.

enjoyable movie / comedy, although the translation probably did injustice as some of the saying of the children seem rude. The main child actor was excellent.

I've never written a review before, but I hope other parents don't make the same mistake I did. This movie has non stop pointless violence. I did nothing but feel sorry for the little CJ7. The thing gets chewed on, waterboarded, beat up, squished, twisted and mangled the entire show. And most of it is done by the lead character out of temper tantrums. The kid is poor and the dad preaches the entire show about being a good person even though they have no money. And yet the kid is a total piece of crap. Sadly the little brat is viewed as the nicest kid in school too... My advice to parents is if you are trying to raise your kids to be good people, and want to censor what they watch, I wouldn't allow anyone under the age of 7 or 8 to watch this. And its definately not for pre-schoolers.
