Read More I read this book and it became, easily, one of my top 10 books so far. I'm always skeptical about movies made from books as it is extremely difficult to capture everything from the printed word on the big screen. The Kite Runner is one of those rare occasions where the emotions and drama are wonderfully portrayed.
An incredibly moving story - both in print and on screen. HIGHLY recommend both! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I really found this movie interesting, great plot and story. It may start off a little slow, but gets really good. I was pleasantly surprised. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The child actors were so good and truly believable. This movie takes you on a life journey that is at times sad and heartwrenching and at others uplifting and inspiring. A must see. One of the best movies I have seen in the past few years. I loved it! (This movie is not for children to watch). Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

I don't normally enjoy a movie as much as the book but they were quite true to the book here. You don't feel the main charaters' angst and guilt nearly as much though in the movie but it is still very moving and interesting. Khalid Abdalla, (the lead) does a great job. You should definitely read the book because it's just so well written. Like most people, I usually don't like movie versions as much as the original written versions. This movie is great though. Although I think everyone should read it at least once, the book takes so much, emotionally, to get through. I had to put it down many times because I was overwhelmed and in tears. There were a few parts of the story that I was relieved not to have to experience again when I watched the movie. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Read More Child actors are a funny beast. Very few of them can really hit the nail on the head, but since they're really just starting to learn how to practice their craft, we give them a bit of a pass. Most of this movie is told as a flashback, with the major characters played by child actors. It's a bit difficult to critique their acting, but I have to in this case: it really seems heavy-handed. Maybe it's the translation to English, maybe it is the subject matter, but the kid segments seem really...off. Other than that, this is a beautiful story with a tear-jerker ending. Leaves you with very uneasy afterthoughts. I would have rated it even higher, but it has one negative. It seemed like the movie was playing up too much to the Western audience. Yes, we know, Taliban is evil, Soviets are bad, America is a land of opportunities. Tell us something we don't already know. I thought it was a bit convenient that the storyline ends in the year 2000. It would of been interesting to see the "insider" perspective on modern post USA-invasion Afghanistan. I suppose that is because the movie is based on the book, but that never stopped Hollywood before. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

Only problem is that the subtitles were yellow not black as I was expecting. The color was hard to read especially at a distance. That quickly became irritating and took away from the story. Dubbed over english is not the same. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No

The character and plot development in the movie are limited. I am sure if I hadn't read the book, I would have been a little confused because issues and emotions are vague. The other reviewer who said "warning this is a subtitled movie and most subtitle movies are not good" is silly. I wonder what movies he's been watching? Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL?
