Read More Uncompromisingly brutal Cat III action film about a killer for hire (Edison Chen) and the cop who attempts to track him down (Sam Lee). The middle 40 minutes (which build multi-dimensional characters) are book-ended by a great opening half hour and a solid finale. There are a series of disturbing killings and the film is engaging throughout. This one is not for the weak-hearted. American's will have trouble appreciating this. Read More This movie is disturbing I have to admit, but it is worth the roller coaster ride. My first thought of the main character was wow what an animal, so numb to human emotions. Then he meets a girl and shows he does have a bit of compassion, he sort of rescues her from her prison, yet you can still see his roughness and violent side. You find yourself wondering how someone like him gets by in life uneducated and uncivilized.
As the story progresses he seems to fall in love with the girl and becomes protective of her. In the end he makes many sacrifices and you really feel sorry for him..but like most Asian films..another tragic ending.. It's emotionally exhausting, but its well worth the watch. There are minimal action scenes, so naturally you are expecting a story. This film doesn't deliver on either. About 50 minutes in I was hoping for the film to come to an end. Because of the poor script, this film will drag on and on for the last 30-40 minutes. Avoid this film. There are other action films much better than this!!! Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Read More It is hard to tell whether or not this movie is commenting on the brokenness of the human condition or is simply trying to be violent entertainment. It fails to do either and like much of the post-modern works, offers no hope and proposes no answers.
If little boys being enslaved and forced to kill each other for meals and cutting a baby out of a woman's stomach are something you consider entertainment, give this one a try.
