But what seems to be excessive violence is actually not gratuitous. That is because violence is a theme the film explores: what causes it, can the cycle be broken, and what are consequences. It tackles the conflicts of morality vs justice, and how violence corrupts the two. The characters and story are complicated; There is no easy labels for the antagonist or protagonist. Just as empathy slowly seep into the killer's brutal soul, we as the viewer slowly develop sympathy for him.
On top of the great storytelling, no-frills honesty, and non-Hollywood cheeze, that is a hard thing to achieve for a filmmaker. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||
6 out of 6 people found this review helpful What is everyone talking about? This movie was great! Yes it was violent, bloody, and not a feel good movie, but this movie was a ride. Life is not all sunshine and roses, and this movie shows that. This is not a main stream hollywood movie, so I quess some people are turned off by that. But when I look for foreign movie this is exactly what I want because it is not so by the book. Do not be turn away from the bad reviews. I think this is a must see!WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? I guess most people are more comfortable ... Read More First off, this movie isn't nearly as violent as these reviews make it out to be. Yes theres violence but it isn't gory, excessive or even that graphic. I guess most people are more comfortable seeing people get shot then stabbed. Anyway, I just recently started watching a lot of these Dragon Dynasty films and I think this is one of the best I've seen so far. The plot is decent and it doesn't have some crazy twist just to add shock value like a lot of their other films I've seen; or does it, whatever. If you like action movies, then I definitely recommend this. It may not be your typical American action movie where the hero saves the day and theres a happy ending, but its definitely worth watching. Close this Review WAS THIS REVIEW HELPFUL? Yes | No | ||

A lot of people are talking about how violent it was, but it really isn't all that violent. If you could handle "The Departed", this'll be a piece of cake.
But the thing about this movie is how bleak it is. It is DARK. I mean, REALLY DARK. When my friend and I got to the last scene of the movie, I just threw out an idea for how they could end the whole thing and have it be the most depressing "screw-you, humanity" movie ending in cinema history. Just threw it out there. As a joke. Not serious at all.
AND I FREAKING NAILED IT.
With one tiny difference, I neglected to name the song they piped in on the soundtrack.

Cinematography great, the style and colors fit the mood of the film perfectly. Movies sets and locations greatly add to movie.
