I never thought I would say this - the movie was better than the book! As a teacher, as a school librarian, it offends me that this is so. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and would see it again and again. I even started reading Jane Austen again! The movie was funny and the actors brought the book to life. It was as if the book was black and white. It was so boring. I had to try twice to get through it, but the movie was superb! See it soon!

I loved this movie, and it is one of the most romantic I've seen in a while. Many interesting characters, multiple subplots and lots of cross-references to Jane Austen's six novels. I had tears in my eyes through much of the last 20 minutes once I realized that Persuasion was going to do its magic. It probably helps to have read Jane Austen or at least seen some of the movies of her books, but I don't think it's critical to enjoying the story and acting. It is certainly a chick flick but one a guy can like a lot if romantic comedies work you you.

I have not read the book that this movie was based on exactly. I have read all of Jane Austen's wonderful six books, and the plots do cross over quite a bit. I really connected with the characters and had fun matching plots with Jane Austen stories. I do caution this is a chick flick especially for those of us who like Austen.

Great movie - happy ending - interesting people - what could be better for an evening of entertainment.

This was entertaining. I really liked the characters, just would have liked a little more from them storywise. Jane Austen would have done better by them! Kathy Baker is the star for me of this great cast ensemble. Hugh Dancy's talent was wasted in this - but he's just so purty I'm always happy just to see him. The story is of a group of friends and an outsider or two that form a book club reading only Jane Austen books. Within their discussions of the books you (and they) realize they are actually talking about and working through the problems of their own lives and getting the perspective of others while doing so.

I had some doubts when I first rented this one, thinking it would be pretty boring, boy was I wrong. The perfect chick flick comedy.

I have a difficult time believing that anyone would not want to immediately jump on Hugh Dancy if they met him in an elevator and he was obviously attracted to them. Maria Bello's character in this movie is annoyingly oblivious to his hotness until the end. I just felt nothing for any of the characters in this film. I have not read Jane Austen since high school so I guess it was a little hard to follow when they were discussing her novels. And as I get older I have less and less patience with films that I feel just are not well done. If you are looking for a decent chick flick that is not like every other chick flick out there, it's not bad. Just be prepared and read some Jane Austen beforehand. I recommend "Persuasion" and "Sense and Sensibility".

I found this movie quite disappointing. The characters were colorful, but everything else was a bitt flat.

What an absolute waste of time! This movie was boring and truly one of the worst movies I have ever forced myself to sit through. Don't bother with this one at all!!
