Intriguing and somewhat artsy, which I liked. But playing the entire 5 to 7 minutes of every song on the soundtrack during random scenes of nothingness made me press the fast forward button a million times. You can't bore the audience to tears with the art of it, it has to at some point make them care about the characters.

If you're 16, you might like this movie. Otherwise, don't bother.

It had some good skate clips, but sucked beyond belief as far as a movie. I was amazed that there were still references to the war...thats just pathetic...

first off, i love art films and movies that don't follow the hollywood norm. but nothing happens in this movie. it's not that it was slow or i didn't get it. absolutely nothing happens. when it was over my wife and i started hysterically laughing. i couldn't even sleep because i was so messed up by the whole thing. i don't know how to explain this any differently, i'm trying to find the right word to explain how i feel....but i can't...i actually recommend you rent this and stick with it until the end because it's really something you have to experience for yourself. was it about how kids don't understand death? someone please help me here.

This was the most awful movie I've seen in a my lifetime thus far. Kept hoping that something in this terrible film would happen or just make sense. Another thing bad about this movie, a lot of waste time of seeing this kid walking down the school hall or driving a car without looking where he's going,..........very bad acting, just down right poorly written. Never should had been a movie period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a terrible movie. Even though I didn't get much past 20 minutes into it, I feel that it was a complete waste of my time. It was like a home movie...no plot...bad acting.

Another Gus van Sant film that challenges the way cinema is done. If you are looking for a mainstream film about skateboarders (with a plot that holds your hand through the storyline and has a skater subculture soundtrack) then this is not for you. Rent "Lords of Dogtown" instead. However, if you appreciate independent film that gives the viewer an alternative to the typical hollywood garbage, and challenges you to make your own interpretations, then you will be in for something highly worthwhile. It is a great story (based on the book by Blake Nelson) that adapts to film very well by the talented Van Sant. Gus van Sant directs flawlessly, with a cast of mostly unknowns, and makes this an honest portrait of a typical american kid who is involved in a horrific "crime".
