When an extraterrestrial spaceship comes crashing down to Earth during the reign of the Vikings, the Scandinavian plunderers get set to do battle with a most unusual enemy in director Howard McCain's earthbound science fiction thriller. Jim Caviezel, Jack Huston, and Sophia Myles star in a film scripted by director McCain in collaboration with screenwriter Dirk Blackman. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Good battle scenes and entertaining thru out the entire movie. I was surprised how much I liked it! Good ending as well! Makes you think if this could have happened in the not to distant past??? Acting is spot on too.
I was pleasantly shocked at how good 'Outlander' ended up. A really solid creature film with good, strong character development throughout. All elements of the production were extremely high quality. Jim Caviezel, John Hurt and Ron Perlman (although underutilized) embraced their characters fully and really helped realize and bring new life to an otherwise tired concept new life. Copious amount of gore and I also like the fact that the director steered away form any needless nudity. Any fan of "creature" films should view this as well as fans of fantasy and norse mythology.
James Caviezel rescues this movie from being just another home video with his excellent acting. It had a surprisingly good story that threatened to rise above a genre piece, but dropped the ball through poor pacing, overuse of flashbacks which should have been consolidated into the beginning, and lack of more extensive and sophisticated thematic development.
It's unfortunate that this wasn't a theatrical film, as with more funding and development it could have become an excellent movie instead of a better straight-to-video.
This was a good movie. We would rent it again. This is not a movie that I would let my kids watch due to the violence, but the acting was good and the viking and sci-fi mixture was good. There was even romance in it, which I think makes this movie great for male and female.
